The 19-page booklet, "Identifying and Implementing Educational Practices Supported By Rigorous Evidence: A User Friendly Guide," attempts to "define what constitutes 'rigorous' evidence of effectiveness when it comes to evaluating the research track records of educational programs and practices." The booklet stresses the use of randomized trials. According to Ed Week, "critics complain that the Bush administration's laserlike focus on randomized experiments leaves little room for other kinds of research that can also help build a knowledge base for the field."
