This story from Wired Magazine was recently touted by a TLN member in our daily discussion group as a good example of the power of motivation and high expectations. "La Vida Robot" describes how "four underdogs from the mean streets of Phoenix" bested a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a national underwater robot championship. The teenagers, all students at Carl Hayden Community High School and all undocumented Mexican immigrants, were led to victory by two science teachers. As our TLN member says, "this story tells us a lot about how, even if we think we have high expectations for kids, we really don't know what they are actually capable of doing if they are REALLY motivated."
