Kentucky Teachers Advise State Policymakers
Who has great ideas about recruiting and retaining a high-quality teacher workforce? Teacher leaders, of course. And Kentucky knows it.
Teachers Ali Crowley and Lauren Hill will advise Kentucky policymakers as part of the Prichard Committee’s Team on Teacher Effectiveness. Crowley delivered the keynote speech at the group’s first convening in July 2012, then took part in a panel with teachers Robin Reid, Buffy Sexton, and Pat Thurman. See AP coverage of the event here.
Crowley, Hill, Reid, Sexton, and Thurman are members of CTQ’s Implementing Common Core Standards (ICCS) team.
Barnett Berry also spoke at the event, sharing the executive summary of fall 2011 CTQ publication Teaching Effectiveness for the New Millennium (September 2011).
Over the next year and a half, the Prichard Committee's Team on Teacher Effectiveness will be developing recommendations for Kentucky’s 2014 General Assembly. They will examine teacher recruitment and preparation; hiring, induction, and internships; professional development and leadership; retention and working conditions; compensation, benefits, and tenure; and teacher evaluation.
