A major study by researchers affiliated with The Urban Institute finds that teachers who qualify for certification by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards do a measurably better job in the classroom. The study – funded by the U.S. Department of Education and based on an analysis of more than 600,000 North Carolina elementary test scores – could put to rest some of the controversy in education circles surrounding investments in NBPTS certification. The performance advantage gained by National Board-certified teachers was largest for younger and low-income students. Download the press release, policy brief and/.or working paper at this webpage.
