***A CRITIQUE OF "TEACHING AT RISK" (PDF File)http://www.teachingquality.org/pdfs/GerstnerReview.pdf"Teaching at Risk," a just-released report from The Teaching Commission (chaired by former IBM chief Louis Gerstner) has drawn considerable press attention, particularly for its proposal that teachers be rewarded based on the achievement gains of their students. In this critique of the report, Barnett Berry, executive director of the Southeast Center for Teaching Quality, questions whether the Commission's diagnosis of the teacher quality issue and its proposed solutions will really "meet the goal we all share - ensuring a caring, competent, and qualified teacher for every child, in every class, every day."
