The motto of DonorsChoose is "Every teacher a grant writer. Every citizen a philanthropist." Here's an idea we hope will catch on in many states and communities. The concept is simple -- public school teachers use DonorsChoose to propose resources for their students, and concerned individuals select a proposal to fund. Before accepting a proposal, DonorsChoose staff and volunteers verify the teacher's identity; confirm the existence of requested materials; negotiate discounts and attach a cost to the proposal; and, finally, review the proposed project. When a proposal is funded, DonorsChoose purchases the materials and has them delivered to the teacher's school. The program is the brainchild of Bronx teacher Charles Best. If you'd like to learn more about starting a similar program in your community or state, visit the "Join" page at the site.
