"Building Teacher Leaders," a free video course from the U.S. Department of Education, provides an introduction to teacher leadership as "advocacy for quality curriculum and mentoring peers for success." Paul Kimmerman, a successful Ohio superintendent who led the "First in the World Consortium," shares the characteristics of successful teacher leaders and points out ways to recognize the potential. Although the two-part video has an administrator slant, there's plenty here for teachers interested in leadership and those already in leadership roles. Includes a companion guide and other resources. (Large video files. You may want to download them to your computer hard drive and play them from there.)
