We're a bit past the middle of the school year, but this excellent article about revisiting hopes, goals and classroom rules is still a good read, and it can help teachers get a head start on next year's planning. Taking time at mid-year to lead students through a "revisiting" process, says author Michele Cunningham, is an important opportunity "that helps the children see the progress they've made while setting the tone for productive learning during the remainder of the year." It all begins by laying the proper groundwork in August or September. This story from the Responsive Classroom newsletter describes the step-by-step approach of Connecticut elementary teacher Nancy Kovacic as she guides students from Day One in thinking about their progress in achieving their goals.
