At a recent workshop for parents and teachers at a Massachusetts high school, neuroscientist Marisa Silveri used brain scans to show that teenagers process thoughts in strikingly different ways than adults do. Adults must realize, experts say, that while teens may look grown up, their brains are still immature, particularly when it comes to making decisions. Says one teacher in this story from the Boston Globe: "'A lot of people write [bad behavior] off as being normal in the teenage years...but it's sort of like if your car's not working. You have to understand how the car, or the teenage brain, functions in order to develop a strategy for dealing with a problem." A good article to share with parents.
