In a fascinating research study that included students as researchers, the Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE) set out to assess the quality of relationships among faculty and students. Their warts-and-all findings are chronicled in an issue of "Focus," the BPE's newsletter for Boston teachers. The survey project supports the Boston school system's emphasis on "workshop" classrooms and schools where respectful relationships among adults and students create the trust necessary to improve teaching and learning.
