"Summer vacation is a powerful anachronism," says Milton Chen, executive director of The George Lucas Educational Foundation. Kids aren't helping plow the fields anymore, he contends, so why are we throwing away three months? Chen believes that moving to a year-round school schedule could be liberating for teachers, who "may be (in) the only profession where members have so little control over how their time is spent."
