The Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession (CSTP) recently unveiled the results of a collaborative project aimed at defining the elements of high-quality induction for new teachers. Although the work grows out of an effort to help Washington State school districts establish effective teacher induction programs, the project's products will be of interest to districts across the U.S. CSTP convened teachers, mentors, administrators, and human resources professionals for several day-long sessions, using existing research, personal experience, and input from national experts to identify the needs of new teachers and craft standards to address them. The result is a set of standards, assessment tools, and other resources designed to assist districts of varying size and capacity implement top-notch induction programs.
