NEA NBCT State Summits

CTQ has built a collaborative relationship with the National Education Association (NEA) and various other state partners to launch statewide summits of National Board Certified Teachers. The summits have been designed to find real solutions for recruiting and retaining accomplished teachers for high-needs schools and closing the achievement gaps in North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Washington, and Ohio. CTQ assisted these teacher-led efforts in the five selected states by ensuring that the best available research evidence was used in the deliberations, mobilizing NBCTs through a virtual community and developing policy papers to drive new consensus and action.

CTQ has also developed two listservs – a monthly e-news bulletin and an online discussion group – to build upon the critical discussions started during these summits. Ideas generated from the online communities, along with recommendations gathered at the day-long events, are being used to create policy papers to inform local and state policymakers. Thus far, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Washington have released their reports. In addition, CTQ prepared a National Strategy Forum cumulative report highlighting themes from all five states.
